Economic Affects on an Ecosystem

One economic affect that humans have on the ecosystem is also related to Shark Fin Soup. Because the demand for Shark Fin Soup has grown, more and more business's have begun to sell it. As  more people want shark fins for their restaurant, the number of sharks being killed increases. This constant relationship between supply and demand is having a huge affect on shark populations.

The fact that humans can put a species at risk just for a food dish without even thinking about it is something that needs to be changed. Although passing the ban would not completely save all shark populations, it would be such a huge help. Humans need to understand that their actions are having a large affect that is irreversible.

Besides the fact that we are running shark populations into the ground, we are also doing other things to hurt the environment. Because we are removing top tier predators, many ecosystem are being thrown off. We like to believe this doesn't affect us, but in reality it does. Many of us enjoy eating seafood such as fish, mussels, and clams, but with dwindling shark populations this would soon prove to be very difficult. To see why, click here.
